June 27 - Durham Walk for ALS
June 2, 2009 by MikeD
This year’s event is promising to be better than ever. Port Perry’s Heather Moore is once again coordinating the Durham Walk for ALS, dedicated to her father, Jack, who lost his life to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in October 2005.
Participants are encourged to form teams and get pledges for their five-kilometre walk. 70 % of the proceeds go to equipment and support services in Durham with the remainder going towards ALS research.
Participants will be also be served a BBQ lunch thanks to the Blackstock Lions Club, and entertained by great music performed by the Port Perry High School music department. As well, walkers will have the opportunity to win prizes donated by local businesses including Silverside of Dana’s, Home Hardware and Luke’s At Home.
This is an event that is also close to my heart, as my mother also lost her life to ALS 5 years ago. Come on out and join us to raise funds to find a cure for this devastating neurodegenerative disease.
If you can’t make it for the walk, you can sponsor Heather’s team - Team Moore’s Movers - by making a pledge on-line. Very easy and safe to do. They are just a few dollars short of their $1,000 goal. It would be great to get them up and over their goal. Here is their web site:
